An End to Tourneys at the Living History Fayre

Regretfully, I have to announce that Lancasters Armourie will not be hosting the Full Contact Tourney at this spring’s Living History Fayre.

I contacted the organisers of the Living History Fayre on the 8th January this year to confirm they had allowed a trading space for Lancasters Armourie. In the same e-mail that confirmed our pitch allocation, they advised me that they would not be able to make a space for an arena inside the hall, including in the additional new extension. I have reminded them that the conditions outside of the hall are not suitable for this type of activity at this time of year, even if the budget for a Marquee were to be made available [which it won’t be]; it would present unacceptable risks for those taking part and those organising it.

I am disappointed by the current view of the organisers, which are the interests of the fayre are best served by filling the entire space with traders. I hope the new management team for the fayre will reconsider this option for the future and realise the greater potential of this type of space; it offered the fayre many alternatives not seen elsewhere.

Meanwhile, we are really sorry about this and, in the meantime, we shall attempt to find an alternative location for the tourneys.

For the moment we shall return the Tourneys to the Early Medieval Alliance “Caldicot Castle” event (South Wales) in September, where every one will be welcome.

Check the web site of the Early Medieval Alliance – and – Lancasters Armourie web site for details nearer the day (please book in by contacting us at: -  roger@lancasters-armourie(dot)co(dot)uk).
